When you invite me to capture your maternity, newborn, and family experiences, I know you’re sharing your heart with me. Through my photos, I share my heart with you, too.
Styling children can be the thing that brings the whole family fashion theme together in a photo session. My Photo Session Style Guide is the perfect freebie, and explains all about styling your children for portraits! You receive it when you book a photo session with me! My style guide helps you plan your photo session outfits stress-free. It’s packed with detail about how to pick outfits for everyone in your family. Sometimes it’s a perfectly sweet outfit for our children that becomes the focus piece for the whole family’s theme.
Once we have a focal piece to build from, then it’s time to add on the layers with outfits for other family members. Today, we are styling the children! When it comes to choosing outfits for the photo session, we want the kids to be comfy and fashionable at the same time. The good news is that it’s a super attainable goal. Most retailers cater to helping us make our kids look like mini adults, which is always heart melting for portraits. Read on to see some of my favorite perfectly sweet shops that offer comfortable, fashionable, and heart-melting outfits for children.
Mini-me Fashion
From the ‘gram we start with Joyfolie. Their website is filled with feminine and flowing pieces that you will adore. They explain, “Joyfolie, pronounced ‘joyfully’ is derived from the French word ‘folie,’ meaning frenzy/madness, for the joyful, irrational way in which we love our children.”
Trendy Kids
One of my favorite trend forward brands is H&M! This powerhouse retailer will not disappoint if you’re looking for the latest in fashion styling. You can find anything from three piece suits to high fashion jeans and t-shirts. H&M is also a great place to find those accessory pieces for kids- belts, suspenders, hats, jackets, and even trendy loafers!
Classic Kid & Baby
For the times you want a more classic vibe, there is The Gap. You can always count on timeless All-American styled looks for him at The Gap. I never plan a photo session for my own family without first checking out what’s new there. Check out some of my favorites for this fall.
I hope this series on shopping and styling outfits for your portrait session has been helpful. You can always refer back to these blog posts, as well as the Style Guide I send to you at booking, for more guidance on choosing outfits for your family’s upcoming photo session. My top three pieces of advice: 1. Choose a color palette that matches your personal style at home, whether that is light and airy, bold and earthy, or somewhere in between. 2. Be authentic to your personalities. If you are easy going and bohemian, don’t force everyone into formal dresses and suits. Likewise, if you are classically buttoned up, or feminine and romantic, then find styles to meet those feelings. 3. Relax and have fun! In all honesty, at the end of the day, the clothes are going to be the last thing people notice in your photos. They are going to be drawn to the connection and love that radiates from your images. |
