When you invite me to capture your maternity, newborn, and family experiences, I know you’re sharing your heart with me. Through my photos, I share my heart with you, too.
There were 4 reasons I rebranded my photography business- and it was a big deal. As a Maternity, Newborn, and Family Photographer, I took the decision to rebrand really seriously because I’m a visual storyteller, and telling the perfect visual story with my brand is a really big undertaking! It was scary to make a change from something that my clients are already familiar with to something totally new.
The upside to making this bold change was creating a brand that perfectly reflects the luxury photography experience I share with my clients!
Just as you outgrow clothes or your personal style changes overtime, the same goes for the design of a business. I reached a point where the lack of alignment started to feel uncomfortable.
It was embarrassing to send people to my old website. I felt like my branding was better suited to the phase my business was in 2 years ago. It was no longer representing the growth I’d experienced artistically and professionally.
I was already a Showit website user, so finding a talented and vetted brand and web designer was as easy as searching for a designer on their website. Once I discovered Branded by Bernel, I knew we were a perfect fit as designer and client.
Here are 4 reasons I rebranded my photography business (and maybe they’ll help you determine if you’re ready too!):
Up until my rebrand, I’d had the same logo and website since starting my business in 2015. I’d created the logo and picked my color palette based on what I saw other photography businesses using. At the time, I hadn’t asked myself who my client was, what I wanted to convey to them, and what they would experience when they hired me.
After almost 7 years in business, I’d certainly grown and changed as a photographer! I figured out so much about myself, my editing style, the services I wanted to offer, and the people I loved to serve. Sticking with my copycat design of what I thought a “photographer’s” logo should be wasn’t going to cut it anymore. I was ready to stand on my own two feet as an artist.
The way I ensured my branding felt authentic was to make my logo even more personal, alter my color scheme to have a more editorial and organic feel, and hire a designer to create a website that helped capture my brand vibe.
One of the most important reasons I rebranded was to ensure that my clients could see themselves in my work. This doesn’t just mean seeing themselves (and people like them) reflected in the portraits I take. That’s a part of it, but there is more to being seen. It’s about seeing their lifestyles, their homes, their fashion, and their culture in my branding. A big part of this was finding my brand voice, and conveying that consistently in my web copywriting.
I want you, my client, to feel seen, valued, and loved!
When I began transitioning from boutique photo editor to photographer, I wanted to photograph anything and everything (mainly because I needed the practice and I wasn’t totally sure what inspired me most). Over the last 3 years I’ve narrowed down my photography offerings, and now I’m ready to fully focus on the heartbeat of my business.
My Maternity, Newborn, and Family offerings now fit the photography I feel most inspired to create. This helps me meet a need for people I’m passionate about serving. I also began offering Photography Education , so that I can mentor and help other photographers have a thriving business.
My clients were getting a luxury experience once we connected. All of my email communications, private client closet, curated style guide, posing expertise, and printed product offerings are all at a luxury level. There was one thing holding me back though- my website. My website was over designed and not user-friendly.
Can you imagine buying a designer handbag for thousands of dollars, but being asked to walk through Walmart to purchase it? The sensory experience on the way to your luxury investment should be as exciting as the investment itself!
Rebranding and redesigning my website for the first time since starting my business was the best way to remind my clients that their luxury experience starts the moment they interact with me. Whether that’s on my website, social media platforms, or in person- I want you to connect with me and my work on an emotional level. You are the priority, and I’ve taken care of each and every detail to ensure your photos are joyful and timeless.

This is such a great post! Love the analogy of changing your brand to switching up your wardrobe! So fun!
And everything looks so good!!!
Thank you so much! I couldn’t have done it without my amazing Showit designer, Bernel, and the amazing Showit platform. I love this community!
I also love that I can easily update my website on my own too! Showit’s platform is incredibly user-friendly and helps me stay in brand :).
