4 Tips for a Family Beach Photoshoot
A family photoshoot at the beach may sound daunting with little ones, but there are 4 tips to remember that can help everyone have a blast. At your session I always let the kids cue our pace and posing. Keeping little ones happy will always help provide the most love-soaked and authentic interactions for your photos. When you arrive to your beach location I get to take over and you get to love on your people. The smiles, giggles, hugs, windsweeped hair, and snuggles all help me capture those timeless lifestyle portraits for you and your family. It’s always fun in the sun… and sand!
Following these 4 tips will only help keep those little ones happier longer, and in a playful mood. Without further ado, my four favorite beach photoshoot tips for families.
Beach Photoshoot Tip No. 1 – Nap Time
Beach sessions are generally at golden hour, which is one hour before sunset. This can often be late for young children. Be sure to get them a nap the day of your photoshoot, so that they are rested and happy that night at sunset.
Beach Photoshoot Tip No. 2 – Snacks
Bring little ones’ favorite snacks and drinks. Even a 30 minute session can get your toddler hangry. Having their favorite treats on hand is always a good idea.
Beach Photoshoot Tip No. 3 – Favorite Song
Does your child have a favorite song or cartoon that they love to watch? I’m always happy to play their favorite stuff on my phone during your photoshoot to help keep them happy and entertained! Just let me know when you arrive and we’ll get the party started!
Beach Photoshoot Tip No. 4 – Let Them Lead
When little ones are involved in your family photoshoot we let them lead. I’m always in control, but we follow their lead, so they continue to stay happy and smiling for us throughout the beach session. You’ll hear me say, “It’s ok, let him walk around,” or “she can snuggle you right now, she doesn’t need to look right at me.” I’ll always get the shot, and I’ll also get those in-between moments that will become your favorite portraits.
