When you invite me to capture your maternity, newborn, and family experiences, I know you’re sharing your heart with me. Through my photos, I share my heart with you, too.
As a newborn photographer, my goal is to provide a stress-free experience that’s filled with bright & joyful newborn photography. The bright environment for this session was provided by one of my favorite newborn studios. Booking a studio session with me is a great option for families whose homes aren’t filled with bright natural light. A big part of creating a stress-free environment is all about how we prepare before your session. When you book your newborn photo session with me I send over my “Newborn Style Guide”. This 30+ page digital magazine is sent to you via email as soon as your booking is completed. It’s a resource you can return to again and again as you plan for your newborn session. It’s also where I detail how to prepare baby the day of your session, so that they are nice and sleepy for all of those cozy newborn poses.
Even when parents follow my newborn guide perfectly, sometimes baby has a harder time getting sleepy. Having your newborn photos taken is pretty exciting, and there are just babies who don’t want to miss out on the fun! Never fear, for I have a few tips and tricks I use to help baby get sleepy. There is always the chance that the baby just doesn’t want to sleep though.
Taylor was eight weeks old when his newborn session took place in studio, which is much older than I normally photograph newborns. I prefer babies to be about 7-10 days old at their session. Taylor was born within 24 hours of my annual beach sessions, and I was going to be gone for a month. His amazing mama didn’t fret, we simply planned to do his lifestyle newborn session as soon as we could get it on the calendar. I can always accommodate lifestyle sessions for older newborns- it’s simply important that the parents know they’ll have less (or none at all) sleepy and posed photos of baby. There will be lot’s of cuddly poses, laying poses, and even a chance for more smiley poses since baby is older. Whether or not baby sleeps, I will absolutely capture bright & joyful newborn photography in studio!
We didn’t get many photos of Taylor sleeping. Like many older newborns, he got sleepy right at the end of our session while he was in mama’s arms. We took advantage of this little nap and didn’t move him around much. I moved mama from sitting to standing, and captured a variety of angles. This allowed me to provide a final gallery with sleepy photos!
Before he was asleep Taylor loved to stretch and wiggle on the bed. These made for some absolutely adorable images. It also made my job of snapping photos of his giggly smile that much easier! I was also able to get those priceless photos of him and his siblings while he was playful and happily awake.
I love working with this joyful family- I photographed Nichole’s maternity photos too! They always have a go-with-the-flow attitude, which provides the best stress-free environment where we can photograph sweet connections. I’m in love with their final gallery, it’s all things bright and joyful photography should be!
