When you invite me to capture your maternity, newborn, and family experiences, I know you’re sharing your heart with me. Through my photos, I share my heart with you, too.

Over the years, I’ve photographed so many incredible high school seniors, and one thing is always true: girls tend to have a few more questions when it comes to planning their senior session. One of the biggest questions I hear from both seniors and moms is what to wear for senior pictures for girls. The right outfits can help you feel confident, comfortable, and truly like yourself — and that always shows in photos.
Senior portraits are such a special way to celebrate this moment in time — the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. What you wear should reflect who you are right now while still feeling timeless enough that you’ll love these images years from now.
One of the most common questions I get from seniors and moms is: “What should she wear for her senior photos?”
My biggest piece of advice is to choose outfits that feel both true to your personality and comfortable to move in. Most senior girls bring 2–3 outfits to their session so we can capture a variety of looks.
Think of it like this:
This combination gives us beautiful variety while still keeping the session relaxed and fun.
Here are some easy outfit ideas that photograph beautifully:
Senior sessions are designed to feel relaxed and fun. We’ll move around, explore different spots, and capture both posed portraits and those in-between moments that feel the most like you.
A fresh manicure and professional hair and makeup can make such a beautiful difference in your senior photos. As well as skipping the spray tan (I know it’s tempting, but you’ll look too orange and often uneven in skin tone)!
These little details help create a polished, confident look and allow you to fully relax and enjoy the experience. Professional makeup is designed to photograph beautifully while still looking natural and timeless, and professionally styled hair tends to hold up better through outfit changes, wind, and movement during the session. When these finishing touches are taken care of, everything just comes together — giving your photos that effortless, put-together feel that makes them truly frame-worthy.
A few styling tips to help your photos look timeless and beautiful:
Choose soft, flattering colors
Neutrals, pastels, and earthy tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you.
Say yes to movement
Flowy dresses, skirts, and lightweight fabrics add movement and elegance to photos.
Avoid large logos or busy patterns
These can distract from your face and date your photos later.
Keep accessories simple
Delicate jewelry and layered pieces photograph really well without overpowering the look.
Think about your shoes
Shoes show up more than you might think! Neutral sandals, boots, or heels usually work best.
If you’re trying to narrow it down, here’s a simple formula that works every time:
Outfit 1 – Casual
Jeans with a cute top, sweater, or light jacket
Outfit 2 – Dressy
A flowy dress, styled skirt and blouse, or something a little elevated
Outfit 3 – Personal
Sports uniform, college tee, hobby-related outfit, or something that really represents you
Optional – Cap & Gown
If you already have it, it’s a fun way to celebrate the milestone.
Senior sessions typically last about 45–60 minutes, which gives us plenty of time to capture a beautiful mix of portraits and candid moments. We’ll laugh, walk around, and make sure you feel completely comfortable in front of the camera.
